Focus Group Discussions, 2021
Arts Business Management is a project-based and hands-on course that has a mix of focus group discussions, individual/group projects, and presentations. During my curriculum as an Arts Business Management student, I was mainly exposed to various creative art forms – ranging from theatre and music, to dance and visual arts. Additionally, I was also introduced to business and management which taught me how to manage, market, and finance arts and heritage organisations.

Course exchange programme with the Chinese Studies students, 2022
Besides attending lectures and workshops, I had many opportunities for industry visits with organisations like ART:DIS and The Arts House. Moreover, I also embarked on projects with students of different courses as part of a course exchange programme.

I also had opportunities to work on projects sponsored by reputable partners from the arts, culture, and heritage fields. One example of this would be the Verve Arts Festival 2022 hosted and organised by Year 2 students of Arts Business Management, sponsored by the Singapore Arts Museum.

The modules and curriculum vary each year:
-
Year 1: Curriculum knowledge on the Arts History, Culture, Heritage
-
Year 2: Production and management of events, festivals, exhibitions, and programmes
-
Year 3: Creative application of the arts through internships

Through the different phases of learning in the polytechnic, I was able to grasp the fundamentals of events management as there are many skills and knowledge that are transferrable from the school curriculum. In year 2 specifically, I was taught knowledge on the production and management of events and programmes. Not just curriculum knowledge but also application of knowledge was demonstrated through the planning and execution of art festivals like Verve Arts Festival 2022.
